254.85 x 0.3 = 76.455

254.85 – 76.455 = 178.395

since it is money 178.395 would be round to 178.40.

    $254.85 x 30% = $76.45 >> Discount

    $254.85 – 76.45 =$178.4 >>New price

    Note: 30% = 30/100 = 0.3

Edit: I really like those boots.

You are getting shoes at 30% discount which means you have to pay only 70%(100-30) price

So you will pay amount = 70% of 254.85
    = (70/100)* 254.85
    = (7/10)* 254.85
    = (7*254.85 )/10
    = (1783.95)/10
    = 178.39 only
