How to Wear a Maxi Dress

Thursday, April 29th, 2010

Maxi dresses are doing so well in the market but it can be difficult to put out these trendy dresses. It is one the

fashion dress craze right now that can be found in every boutique, from thrifty stores to boutiques, from low end to

upscale style designers like Gypsy 05. Some body conscious women may think a maxi dress is a good way to conceal their

shape and hide unsightly thunder thighs, but in truth it can look like a mumu with the wrong print or cut.

I always love a good maxi dress. These dresses are light, airy, free, boheiam and in style, but most of all they’re just

plain comfy. They’re also the best cover up for fashionable mommies to be. The great thing about a maxi dress is that it’s

meant to be casual and worn out and about with leather flats or cork heels, but it can be dressed up for evening wear as

well. If you’ve got the courage and style to carry a maxi dress, now is the time to go for it! The few things to look for

when shopping for a maxi:

1) Cut is key! For all those busty gals out there, pay attention not just to the cups but to the waist. It’s not

uncommon for a girl who’s bigger on top to have the seam of an empire top or dress ride up too high, and that can

especially happen when you’re wearing a maxi dress. Since most long maxi dresses are long baby doll dresses, most have a

high waist line. See to it that the waist is still intact even if it has an empire style or with a belt. Be weary of the

cup sizes as well, of course, because you don’t want the girls spilling out everywhere! Don’t over trim a too-long

hemline, it will only look odd. It IS a maxi dress after all!

2) Be weary of prints. Avoid busy prints on your maxi dress, you know the type that can make someone else nauseas or go

blind because of neon colors. Prints in general, especially large figures, tend to make people look bigger, so a wide

skirt plus a large print is a huge no-no! A more subtle print in soft pastel colors can be very pretty, but when in

doubt, stick to a solid colored maxi dress, which is still just as chic.

3) Go crazy with accessories! Solid colored maxi dress are the simplest article of clothing to to accessorize. Maxi dresses can also be paired with long necklaces, especially the hot statement necklaces of the moment; long pendants look great with long dresses as well. Scarves are a great pairing for a maxi dress as well, and attention grabbing handbags. When in doubts whether to wear those trendy sandals, try it on with maxi dress to be even a bit trendier.

Try an inexpensive solid colored maxi dress if you’re having second thoughts of wearing one. You can wear it as a cover up

to your beach or pool swim wear that can give a trial wearing. If you’ve decided that this longer style of a dress is not your desire then cut it just above knee level and redesigned it to a short, sassy and sunny mini dress. Just try it and enjoy the outcome.

Please read my short story and tell me what you think?

Wednesday, April 28th, 2010

Esther sat stiffly on her old, worn chair. The velvet fabric upon it was torn and fading, and with every movement she made, the chair creaked loudly. It had been hours since the chair had last made a sound. Esther was able to sit motionlessly for as long as she pleased. She would just sit there and stare out her front window, imagining herself walking down the sidewalk with her husband who had died years ago. She didn’t imagine herself as she was now, she imagined herself as how she was about sixty years earlier, before the aches and pains of being an elder. Now, as she stared out the window, the rain was pouring down and the sky was a dark gray. Her favorite type of weather.
She heard a tap at her front door. Naturally, she hated when anyone visited her. She didn’t need the stress and pain of getting up, off of her chair, then having to walk the long eight meters back. It was pointless for her to go so far, just so someone could drop off something that she didn’t care about. The only visitors she enjoyed were the ones dropping off the shoes that she ordered. Not that visitors were much of a problem these days. People came by less and less over the years. Her husband had had many friends who stopped by quite often. After he died they continued to come by and mourn the death of their dear friend. To Esther, the worst part of the visitors was that she had to pretend to be depressed with them. Sure, she was depressed, but not because he was dead. His death didn’t bother her at all; his being alive was what made her the most angry. All it took for her was tennis shoe, and, or course, Gary’s stupidity. She was relieved now that he was gone for good. Of course, nobody suspected it was her. When police came by and interviewed her, she got off the hook easily. She was old and wrinkled so most people didn’t even think to accuse her of such a crime.
Esther arose from her chair slowly. She placed her feet into her little pink slippers and shuffled slowly to the door, quickly grabbing a bloodstained notebook off of the nearby shelf and shoving it inside of her puffy robe. Checking through the peephole, she saw a young-looking policeman. Opening the door up, the man looked a bit shocked at Esther’s appearance. It was clear that he wasn’t expecting a little old lady.
“Can I help you, Sir?” her voice croaked. It had been almost a week since she had last spoken, so her voice was rough and dry.
“Um, y-yes.” he said as if he felt horribly to accuse her of anything. “My name is Paul,” he began. Esther knew why he was there. It had only been a week since she had completed her last murder. These dumb policemen came by her house all the time. It didn’t scare her any more. “Well, as you may have heard, an apparent ‘good friend’ of yours, has gone missing,” he said slowly. “It’s said that you were with Jane on the day she disappeared, and I was wondering if….” His voiced trailed off. “I was wondering if you had anything to do with it,” he finished quickly.
Esther watched as Paul’s eyes trailed around the room and froze in the corner, as if he was watching someone being stabbed to death. His eyes bulged, and he seemed to stop breathing. Immediately Esther’s heart began racing. Had she left some piece of evidence out? Pretending to not be worried, she turned around and followed his gaze across the room, and her eyes landed on the boot. The high-heeled, cream-colored boot, that she had so recently beaten Jane with. And, worst of all, the boot was covered in blood.
“Ma’am?” Paul’s voice was short and quiet. “I-i-is…that blood?” his voice was shaky.
“Yes it is, Sir,” she replied with a devilish laugh, as she picked up a green converse from the ground.
And, before she knew it, he was done with. She picked up the white boot and tossed it in the closet, along with the green Converse. There they would wait forever. Or until she died, and someone found them. The shoes weren’t going to be alone, though. There were seventy-six other various types of shoes waiting there, too. She didn’t clean up the mess of Paul. That was a job for another day. She pulled out a spiral notebook from her robe and turned to the eighth page. The page was nearly filled.
‘#78, done’, she wrote with a shaky hand. ‘Type of shoe: Converse.’ Along the page there were seventy-seven other names, each with a different type of shoe next to it. If she was going to be a murderer, she might as well be creative with it, she always thought. That’s why she used shoes.
She walked slowly back towards her little, creaky chair. She picked up her phone and dialed the number of her favorite shoe store.
“Hello, could I please order some shoes?” Esther said sweetly. “I’d like to try Crocs, I’ve never tried those before,” she laughed.
Of course, the young woman had no idea what Esther was really talking about, and took the order just like any other. Esther waited in her little chair for a week, waiting patiently for her Crocs to arrive. And, when they did, she
I’m 13 by the way.

And don’t be rude and say its too long.
If it’s too long for you then just leave, and don’t be mean about it.
gahh half of it got cut off :(

Not too bad for an early draft. Interesting method for murder. What is Esther’s motivation? If movement is so difficult, how does she accomplish these murders? How does a feeble old woman dispose of a body and all the evidence? How long has she been at it? She seems sloppy — how could she not be caught by now?

Obviously, this is only a partial story (cut off mid-sentence). I’m also wondering (do I really want to know?) how someone could kill with a pair of Crocs??? Seems like trying to feebly beat someone to death with a Nerf ball.

Look Slimmer – 7 Easy Tips to Loose Weight Instantly

Monday, April 26th, 2010

Women who have a larger figure and want to look slimmer can easily knock off a few kilos instantly and appear slimmer by following a few simple guidelines.

If you want to look slimmer quickly, then simply follow the seven steps below in your choice of clothes.

1. Wear clothes that fit

Don’t delude yourself and try and squeeze into a size smaller than you really are.

It won’t make you look slimmer and will have the opposite affect.

The reverse is also true, if you buy clothes that are too big. Baggy clothing will make you seem bigger than you really are as well as giving you a sloppy appearance.

The important point to remember is clothing needs to fit well in order to make you look slimmer.

2. Colors to choose

Black is the most popular color and around 60% of the clothes sold in the UK are in this color. Its popular as it makes you look slimmer and this is true of all dark colors.

Darker colors are always give a slimmer look than lighter, pale colors simply because they absorb the light. Dark grays, olives, browns, burgundies, in fact any autumnal colors will work well.

The other point to keep in mind when trying to look slimmer with colors, is don’t wear to many colors 2 or 3 is fine.

Also, if you have one main color for the whole outfit you will emphasize length giving a slimmer look.

For example, Don’t wear a different color jacket to your skirt, keep them the same color.

3. Patterns

Keep away from horizontal stripes!

This will mean people will look across your body, where to appear slimmer you need them to top to bottom, which makes you appear slimmer.

There may be times where you need to wear say a pinstripe suit for business.

If you do then go for thinner the stripes, which will make you look slimmer. Vertical stripes will draw attention from the top to the bottom of the body, which is your overall aim.

Keep away from patterns as much as possible the better the result in terms of creating a slim look. If you fancy wearing patterns keep them small rather than large but really their best avoided

4. Fabrics

Shiny fabrics should be avoided, as should thick fabrics. Thinner, matt fabrics are generally more slimming and absorb rather reflect light, making you stand out less and appear thinner.

Stretch fabrics such as Lycra, should also be avoided, any fabric that hugs your body to tightly, will do you know favors at all.

5. Styles

Length is one of key ways of making you look slimmer.

Long jackets should be single breasted as opposed to double breasted so to not emphasize width.

Longer length skirts are best when they are straight and not flared, as flared skirts give a bulky feel to any outfit.

6. Accessorizes

Accessories are a great way of diverting the eye away from areas you don’t wish to stress.

Necklaces, bangles, and earrings should be coordinated with nail varnish and lipstick will divert eyes away from areas you don’t want people to notice.

Accessories such as belts, chokers broaches should be not be used, as they draw the eyes to areas you do not want people to notice.

For example, a belt looks best on women who have small waists and wish to show off this area as an asset.

The reverse is true if your waist is a problem area. A belt acts as a horizontal dividing line, and you want to really give an overall impression of height, which means not cutting your clothes in two.

7. Shoes

A pair of high heels is preferable to flat shoes, as will again give the overall impression of length and hence detract away from width.

The above simple guidelines will make anyone appear slimmer and present a better overall image.

Take Care of Your Precious Feet

Friday, April 23rd, 2010

Socrates, the ancient Greek philosopher, was the first to admit that “When feet hurt, we hurt all over.” But whether or not you have experienced any type of physical discomfort associated with your feet, you have certainty witnessed people suffering from sore feet and constantly complaining about the swelling or the pain they had to endure. In fact, taking care of your feet and wearing the appropriate shoes in relation to your activities can keep your feet healthy and leave your friend’s ears at rest.

Although some changes in the feet are normal with aging, other changes may indicate serious disorders. The American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons recognizes the importance of taking good care of your feet and suggests that all should invest time and effort in feet grooming and careful shoe-buying. As it is estimated that more than 70 percent of all people in the United States will have foot problems at some point during their lifetime, it is of extreme importance to prevent foot pain, disorders, and other foot problems, by performing some simple foot-care practices. Since foot pain is not considered as being a normal feeling, preventing foot pain by exercising and paying attention to the signs they give, can help us keep them healthy and strong for years.

Employ a daily routine for your feet and start by washing them in warm and not hot water. Try not to soak your feet more than ten minutes and dry them well afterwards. Pay special attention to the toes and the skin in-between as cracks and dryness can allow bacteria to grow and increase the risk of infection. Especially if your skin is dry, use a skin lotion that can soften the hard surfaces and help your feet absorb and keep longer the needed hydration. It is of vital importance to always cut your nails straight across and never too short, as these areas can develop funguses that produce rather unpleasant odors apart from destroying the nail itself. Of course change your socks or stockings daily and avoid wearing them when they are too short or tight. Finally, in case your feet are sweaty or are prone to athlete’s foot, use the appropriate powder daily and wear shoes that are made from natural substances, like leather or canvas. Avoid buying shoes made from synthetic materials that are not able to “breath” since the foot problems you suffer from will persist or even develop further.

Because feet spread with age, make sure to measure your feet every time you decide to go shopping for shoes and select to perform such tasks during the evening, as feet swell to their largest by that time of the day. Always check the heels of the shows you are interested in buying so as to ensure that they fit properly and also that the instep does not gape open. Women should know that although high heels may be fashionable or make feet look good they should not be worn for long period of time or while walking long distances. Cramped toes and bad body posture are usually the outcomes of badly selected shoe-heels. When shopping for your precious feet, always remember that comfort and function have to come before style.

6 Quick Cleaning Tips for Hardwood Floors

Tuesday, April 20th, 2010

Your home is one of your most precious belongings. You want to keep it as clean as possible but there are times when you find it hard to clean the floor, especially if it’s hardwood. So how will you clean it? Consider these quick cleaning tips and you’ll be done in no time.

1. Always sweep your hardwood floor using fine, soft bristle broom. Every time you see dust or dirt, sweep the floor; it would only take about a few seconds of your time.

2. Your floor has many enemies, and one deadly enemy is water. Once you see a water spill on your hardwood floor, remove it right away. Wet spills should be removed as soon as possible using a vacuum (wet/dry) or soft towels. Make sure that the floor is thoroughly dried otherwise this will be the start of your floor’s deterioration.

3. You should vacuum your hardwood floor twice every week but others prefer to vacuum their floor only once every week to reduce scratching. To ensure that your floor is free from any scratch, use the soft brush vacuum attachment.

4. As much as possible, avoid wearing high heels and heavy shoes over your hardwood floors because they can cause unwanted dents.

5. When rearranging your furniture, don’t drag them and other heavy objects across your hardwood floor. Clean your floor and remove dirt or dust thoroughly. Use gliding pads for your furniture and slide them across your floor.

6. Make sure that you put floor mats on every doorway so that the shoes can’t carry dirt to your hardwood floor.

So there you have it, six quick cleaning tips. If you carefully observe these tips, you will find it easier to clean your floors.
